There’s a running joke in Arie’s family that the first word he learned in Spanish was “ahora,” which is “now” in English. Cake, candy, dessert — “Ahora!” I laugh when I think of his mom trying to hide the sweets, knowing full well that Arie’s insatiable sweet tooth would lead him to find them right away.
When it comes to dessert, Arie is still just as eager as he was when he was a little boy. Two minutes after finishing dinner, Arie is looking around, wondering what’s for dessert. I always try to have something ready, whether a pastafrola already made, a batch of cookies almost done in the oven, or just ice cream in the freezer. He’s very easy to please, so long as he doesn’t have to wait too long.
Imagine my delight when I discovered this magical recipe–2 small servings of chocolate cake made instantly in the microwave. From start to finish, this recipe only takes 5 minutes. The ingredients are simple, things I always have on hand. I can whip up dessert at a moment’s notice.
This recipe is perfect for moms who want to make a small treat for their kids, for college students living the dorm life, or for anyone who has someone in their life wanting dessert “ahora.”
Amazing Five Minute Chocolate Cake
Ingredients:
- dark chocolate - 1 bar, broken into pieces
- butter - 1 Tbsp.
- sugar - 1 Tbsp.
- egg - 1
- flour - 1/2 Tbsp.
- powdered sugar, icing, sprinkles - as needed, optional
Instructions:
1. Place the chocolate and butter in a microwave safe coffee cup. Microwave for 30 seconds, then stir. Microwave for another 30 seconds, then stir. Continue this pattern until the chocolate and butter have melted.
2. Add the sugar and egg to the melted chocolate mixture. Mix with a fork until smooth.
3. Incorporate the flour into the mixture and mix well. (You can keep the mixture in one large coffee cup or divide it between two smaller coffee cups. The mixture should fill about 3/4 of the cup.)
4. Microwave for 1 minute, then open the microwave door for a few seconds. Repeat this for a total of 3 minutes, opening the door each minute to prevent burning.
5. Add powdered sugar, icing, or sprinkles, and serve with scoop of ice cream or a glass of milk. Enjoy!
